Store your tree in a sheltered, but unheated, area such
as a porch or garage until you are ready to decorate. |
- If you plan to store the tree for
several days, make a straight cut across the butt end of
the tree, about 1/4" from the end. This opens
the tree stem so it can take up water. Store the
tree upright and place the butt end in a container of
water. |
- Trees are thirsty. A stand
which holds at least four litres of water is
recommended. If you allow the water level to drop
below the bottom of the trunk, a seal will form just as
it does on a cut flower and a new cut will be necessary.
- Stick to
plain drinking water since reasearch shows many
additives, such as sugar, cola and Aspirin do more harm
than good.
|
- Keep your tree away from all
sources of heat and drying, including radiators, furnace
ducts, television sets, fireplaces and windows with
direct exposure to the sun. |
- Ensure all electric lights and
connections are in good working order. Do not
use lights with worn or frayed cords. |
- Turn off the tree lights when you
leave and before you retire at night. |
- NEVER use combustible decorations
or lighted candles on any Christmas tree. |
- When a large amount of needles
begin to fall from you tree, it's time to remove it from
your home. |
